Job/Internship Description
**About AbbVie** AbbVie's mission is to discover and deliver innovative medicines that solve serious health issues today and address the medical challenges of tomorrow. We strive to have a remarkable impact on people's lives across several key therapeutic areas: immunology, oncology, neuroscience, eye care, virology, women's health and gastroenterology, in addition to products and services across its Allergan Aesthetics portfolio. The goal of the intern project is to support the development of a novel soft-sensor as a Process Analytical Tool (PAT) to accelerate the freeze-drying/lyophilization process. This involves using computational modeling (CFD) based on prior experimental work to study the Pirani pressure data to accurately determine the real-time sublimation flow rate, and therefore the true end point of primary drying. The intern will carefully perform sensitivity and uncertainty quantification studies with respect to the lyo process inputs/outputs and build fit-for-purpose soft-sensors for two manufacturing scale lyophilizers. It will help guide the initial lyo process scale-up/transfer of an important upcoming late-stage project. Validation of the predicted primary drying endpoint with be performed on lab scale lyophilizers and then scaled-up. **Qualifications** **Preferred Qualifications:** Any coursework or research experience in Engineering/Science majors on these topics: + Fluid Mechanics + Heat and Mass Transfer Computational/Modeling Skills: experience in using the following programming tool/software: + ANSYS Fluent and C programming (for UDF in Fluent) + Matlab OR Python (OR any other scientific programming language) **Minimum Qualifications:** + Minimum GPA = 3.0/4.0 + Returning to university for at least one semester + Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a master's degree or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmacy, Aerospace Engineering or a related field + Demonstrated leadership skills (i.e. extracurricular activities or projects) + Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT may be accommodated) **Significant Work Activities** Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day) **Travel** No **Job Type** Internship **Schedule** Full-time **Job Level Code** IC **Equal Employment Opportunity** At AbbVie, we value bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop new and innovative solutions for patients.
