Aspen Tech Policy Hub

The Aspen Tech Policy Hub, a program of Aspen Digital, is a West Coast policy incubator training a new generation of tech policy entrepreneurs. We take tech experts, teach them the policy process through fellowship and training programs, and encourage them to develop outside-the-box solutions to society's problems. We model ourselves after tech incubators like Y Combinator but train new policy thinkers and focus on the impact of their ideas.

About the role

The Hub seeks a paid part-time intern (expected commitment: approximately 10 hours a week, with hourly pay of $20/hour; some weeks will have more work than others) to work closely with the Hub's Events and Communications Assistant, Deputy Director, and broader Hub team to assist with communications, programming, and virtual events. The ideal candidate will be flexible and able to turn around projects in a timely manner. We hope to hire for this position as soon as possible for a 4-month internship with a potential for extension. Remote candidates are welcome.

The Communications intern will work closely with the small Hub team and will benefit from close mentorship from Hub leadership. The intern will also have the opportunity to attend Hub training sessions, giving them exposure to critical skills in policy advocacy and policymaking, and the opportunity to hear from exciting guest speakers and policy leaders.

What you will do

  • Track media hits

  • Advertise Hub events to like-minded organizations

  • Compile and organizing large databases of contacts

  • Draft and editing slide show presentations for Hub events, including finding graphics

  • Assist in compiling results for large-scale surveys, such as the Hub's annual report

  • Provide occasional WordPress website support

  • Perform operational or programmatic tasks as assigned

What you need to thrive

This opportunity is ideal for applicants who would like both communications experience, and exposure to a range of operational and logistical tasks at a nonprofit.

Our ideal candidate will be organized, responsible, reliable, and able to meet tight deadlines. Some experience in communications, especially in social media outreach and branding is preferred. This is the perfect role for a student or recent graduate interested in further developing their communications skills and learning about the operations of a tech policy non-profit.

This internship is Bay Area-preferred, though we will also look at applicants not based in the Bay Area.
