Covia is looking for a dynamic Environmental Specialist who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Wedron, IL location. The Environmental Specialist will supervise and administer the Environmental Programs in a manner consistent with Corporate and governmental standards.

The successful candidate will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform various activities to maintain compliance with state, local, federal laws and all associated permit regulations including: NPDES Water Sampling and Reporting, air quality monitoring, and storm water inspection planning and maintenance. Work with Corporate contacts to submit reports for all safety & environmental policies, procedures and regulations at the Federal, State, Local and Internal levels.
  • Collect data and prepare routine compliance reporting.
  • Work with Corporate Environmental (ENV) and Mine Supervisor on reclamation plans and SWPPP Pond designs.
  • Work with ENV on disturbance reporting.
  • Ensure training as required by environmental permits is complete.
  • Administer corporate environmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures in compliance with all state and federal permits.
  • Perform monitoring and oversee all state and federal permit reporting requirements.
  • Communicate with ENV on permit renewals, compliance issues, updating plant specific plans and all plant environmental issues.
  • Develop and implement environmental action plans to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and to broaden the environmental awareness of employees.
  • Update and ensure completion of compliance action items within Covia's electronic compliance management software system.
  • Assist ENV with the administration and management of electronic systems.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 year post secondary diploma. Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences preferred.
  • 3-5 years of environmental compliance experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can independently manage themselves.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams.
