General/Position Summary

The Senior Principal Research Scientist is self-reliant with a proven record of accomplishments, independently identifying and solving complex problems using sophisticated scientific methods and analytical thought, across a number of critical and diverse projects. The Senior Principal Research Scientist encourages use of diverse experimental approaches within their area of work and takes limited risks to test and advance innovative processes and methodologies that generate insights that inuence research strategies in their area of discipline. Regarded as an expert in a eld of research, providing reliable, valuable advice to other Project Teams on a regular basis.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Discovery Research team to identify new markers (intracellular and cell surface) as targets for flow cytometry assays
  • Develop multiplex flow cytometry panels to characterize and quantify cell populations within expansion and differentiation phases; qualify assays as needed
  • Perform bridging studies to show lab-to-lab and instrument-to-instrument comparability
  • Evaluate and/or implement flow assays in automated platforms working closely with the Cell and Gene Analytical Technologies (CGAT) team
  • Evaluate new multiplexing technology platforms to map differentiation states and enable analytical in process control strategy
  • Makes data-driven conclusions and identies comprehensive implications for ndings
  • Makes substantive contributions that impact the achievement of critical project activities and scientic strategies within discipline
  • Author analytical methods (AM) and method development reports (MDR)
  • Be a mentor and leader within the lab for junior scientists
  • Perform routine testing as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD

Typically requires the following, or the equivalent combination of education and experience: PhD and 6-8+ years, or Master's and 9+ years, or Bachelor's and 11+ years

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Specialized depth of knowledge in stem cell biology, especially, pluripotent stem cells (PSC), such as embryonic stem cells (ESC) and induced PSCs (iPSC)-derived differentiated cells (e.g. insulin-producing cells).
  • Strong flow cytometry assay development experience
  • Ability to consistently advise/mentor others to execute technically challenging, complex experiments that directly impact projects and programs within discipline
  • Ability to consistently identify and leverage new, productive paths/approaches in experiments
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to impact and advance projects through scientic creativity and insights
  • Assigned to the more challenging or higher-value project tasks/problems
  • Often will have demonstrated outstanding determination and/or persistence in supporting project(s)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively write advanced technical documents, and ability to persuade others presenting technical/scientific concepts to diverse audiences
  • Values team work and collaboration to solve problems and design strategies
