Location:
The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hybrid status of reporting to One Energy Plaza in Jackson, MI every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with home office flexibility on Wednesday and Friday.

We are looking for:

The Director of Rates and Regulation is responsible for development and case management of testimony and exhibits for all regulatory filings with revenue requirements, cost of service studies, proposed regulated utility pricing, tariff support and customer billing rate accuracy. The Director of Rates and Regulation is also responsible for providing complex internal analysis and regulatory focused recommendations on utility business issues to both senior management and business operational areas. The Director of Rates and Regulation will maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality, regulatory outcomes and consistency of Company advocacy. The position requires and extensive understanding of the utility business, rate making and financial concepts, well developed interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to lead a team to successful quality analysis, recommendations and results for both the Company and customers .

  • Bachelor's degree in general management, or related field with ten (10) or more years of applicable experience
  • [OR] Associate's degree in general management, or related field with fourteen (14) or more years of applicable experience
  • [OR] High School Diploma with eighteen (18) or more years of applicable experience
  • Experience with levelized cost, cost benefit, and other investment analysis
  • Experience in accounting and finance
  • Energy industry Experience
  • Experience with complex financial calculations
  • Experience preparing written testimony and serving as a witness

In this role, you will:

  • Responsible for the oversight of PSCR and GCR factor calculations, return study preparation, and other ad hoc rate analysis.
  • Responsible for the oversight of all required revenue requirement calculation for rate cases and other regulatory filings and analysis.
  • Lead a highly successful and dynamic team including responsibility for personal and professional development of team of highly talented individual contributors.
  • Deliver Positive Regulatory Outcomes through the proactive development of revenue requirements, rate design, cost allocation, tariff proposals.
  • Impact-Oriented Leader that effectively defines the right problem develops recommendations that leverage the best of the team's thinking and produces very high quality output through thorough reviews. Includes the ability to effectively distills analysis to present compelling insights to senior management as well as critical regulatory audiences.
  • Provide strategic guidance and understand emerging issues.
  • Direct day-to-day team activities to ensure high velocity and timely output of quality work product Balance across multiple priorities with a focus on ensuring alignment with the Company's strategy.
  • Utilize a fundamental understanding of core utility business model dynamics to define strategies that will lead to positive, sustainable regulatory outcomes for the Company and its customers Analyze all regulatory submissions through a big picture lens to understand current and future impacts and potential risk.
  • Responsible for delivery of accurate customer billing through management of monthly rate specific programming updates with IT and SOX validation testing each month. Updates regularly include new very complex configurations. This work is a critical function for the company with high impact to revenue. This role is the no or no go call for billing after accuracy reviews. This role makes rebilling decisions for the Billing department for amounts over $10,000.
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary.
