Job Summary

The Integrative Medicine Acupuncture Specialist, working collaboratively with other practitioners and staff in a team-based approach to patient care, will provide services as a licensed acupuncturist in the state of California. The Acupuncturist reports directly to the Osher Center Practice Manager.

Department Description

The Osher Center for Integrative Medicine (OCIM) is a research, education, and clinical services program of the School of Medicine. The mission of the Osher Center is to scientifically research the effectiveness and value of integrative medicine; to provide patient approaches of proven value; to educate & train students and practitioners in the health professions in a new paradigm of relationship-centered medicine; and to disseminate information on the efficacy of integrative medicine to the medical community and the public.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience as a Licensed Acupuncturist
  • Strong academic & applied background in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Knowledge and application of TCM principles.
  • Effective teaching skills as preceptor for clinical experience as well as teaching group classes.
  • Successful completion of an approved 4-year acupuncture educational and training program, or an approved acupuncture tutorial program, or an apprenticeship.
  • Successful completion of the Acupuncture examination administered by the State of California Acupuncture Board.
  • Maintenance of continuing education: maintains an active license by meeting the requirements of State of California Acupuncture Board & focuses professional development in areas relevant to job assignment and career goals.
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills with peers, patients/families, multidisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to solve problems & make decisions through critical thinking process.
  • Ability to counsel and educate others.
  • Ability to work productively with people who have both similar and different backgrounds.
  • Organization skills and ability to accomplish work without direct daily supervision.
  • Computer skills including the ability to learn and effectively use the computerized clinical information and documentation systems used at UCSF Medical Center.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in a large academic medical center teaching hospital.
  • Experience teaching and supervising Acupuncture interns or other students.
  • 10 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree.

License/Certification

  • Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc) in the State of California
