Under supervision of the Practice Supervisor/Manager, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory
Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Hospital Assistant assists in the delivery of
care to patients in Pulmonary, ILD and Optimal Clinics. Work includes a variety of personal care and clinical
procedures including assuring positive care outcomes. S/he will perform assigned patient care and review of
systems data collection in support of the specialty care services provided to patients within the practices.
S/he will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the specialty care services
provided to patients. S/he is required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the
Medical Center. Work also includes mentoring of staff to promote development of skills to the mentee.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications
1. Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and
experience.
2. Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the
position.
3. 6 months experience in an outpatient practice
4. Experience in processing Durable Medical Equipment Orders, Requests and Troubleshooting
5. Ability to use EMR and perform chart abstraction into EMR
6. Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.
7. Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft office
8. Ability to prioritize work efficiently
9. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and writing skills
10. Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
11. Must be able to multi-task and be flexible in changing work assignments at short notice
12. Familiarity with different insurances, resources available for patient medication and needs for prior
authorizations
Preferred Qualifications
1. Bilingual in Cantonese or Spanish preferred
2. Familiarity with EPIC
3. Bachelors degree in health or behavioral science.
4. Experience with insurance verification
5. Experience in Pulmonary and Sleep
License/Certification
