Job Summary

Under close supervision, washes, dries presses and packs laundry for the hospital. Sorts linen and uniforms and determines whether each piece goes in the tumbler or ironer. Marks clean laundry as necessary for return to various hospital departments.

Essential Functions:
  • Sorts linen and uniforms and determines whether each piece goes into the tumbler or ironer. (20%)
  • Folds garment or feeds through sheet folder and stores in appropriate storage area. (20%)
  • Ensures each department receives the appropriate linens. (10%)
  • Observes operation of machines and reports minor adjustments or malfunctioning to supervisor. (10%)
  • Marks new linen and clothes as assigned. (10%)
  • Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. (10%)
  • Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. (10%)
  • Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient's care. (10%)

Education:
  • No High School Diploma and/or No GED Required

Work Experience:
  • less than 1 year No previous work-related experience

Licenses:

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of clothing cleaning needs
    • Knowledge of laundry room equipment
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Ability to wash, dry and pack laundry
    • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
    • Ability to use judgement to determine cleaning needs
