Job Summary

The sky is no longer the limit as Nidec takes its technology off the ground and into the Aerospace market. As the Testing Engineer you will have the opportunity to define system/equipment test plans, specifying the test benches that will support the development of the electric propulsion systems and the system/equipment verification for the battery-powered aircrafts that will enable the word to sustainably and efficiently get from point A to point B.

Responsible for the definition of the system/equipment test plans, specifying the test benches that will support the development of the electric propulsion systems for aircrafts and the system/equipment verification. Lead the test lab team and support product development needs in terms of tests. Collaborating with cross-functional teams is key to success in this role.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Work in collaboration with the engineering team to define the test laboratory strategy.
  • Specify test benches to support the development of the Electrical Propulsion system including the controls, motors and integration.
  • Define the test benches data acquisition, data stimulus, test interfaces and features to improve test capabilities.
  • Integrate the test benches with model-based design.
  • Assure the quality of the test labs to deliver robust test results and representativeness with final product.
  • Define the test process in compliance with best practices in aerospace, including but not limited to ARP4754A.
  • Develop the test plans and test procedures for development, verification and qualification tests (according DO160).
  • Lead the purchasing process for all test equipment. Contact potential suppliers, present equipment specification, receive quotations, contract negotiation and support them with installation and commissioning of the asset.
  • Develop test reports and analyze test results in collaboration with the engineering team.
  • Lead the Test Technicians to run the tests in different laboratories.
  • Apply the experience in requirements management to be an essential player on the V&V process.
  • Be responsible for the test benches commissioning, guaranteeing the integration of the parts.
  • Apply project management knowledge to manage the test benches development including schedule, budget, risks and scope.
  • Interface with the customer for testing related topics.
  • Guarantee the safe test environment.
  • Guarantee the test benches configuration and obsolescence management.
  • Lead the test strategy according to the development plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system application engineers, equipment engineers, software engineers and mechanical engineers as a focal point for the test labs.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (proficiency levels aligned to job level)

  • BS, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field
  • 10 years of experience in system testing and system integration
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • Test processes for electronic modules
    • Test processes for motor control and high voltage equipment
    • Electric propulsion systems
    • Aviation DO-160 testing
    • New Product Development and Phase-Gate processes
    • Aerospace system testing and test benches specification
    • Object-oriented requirements
    • Integration of test labs with model-based design
  • Willingness to work with, and travel to, domestic and international design and manufacturing locations when necessary.
