General Notes

  • Occasional (i.e., 2-4 times/year) weekend work-typically at the beginning/end of year.

  • Travel to multiple school campuses during the week using personal vehicle with reimbursement for mileage.

  • Travel 3-4 times per year by air.

Purpose

The Senior Academic Program Coordinator for the Dana Center's Literacy First Early Literacy Intervention Program is responsible for implementation of the K-2nd grade reading intervention program that engages paraprofessional (District Capacity Building/AmeriCorps) literacy tutors in under-served schools in Central Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and present at initial and on-going trainings for Literacy First tutors. Observe and coach tutors weekly, including constructive feedback. Review student progress monitoring data to provide recommendations for students' literacy growth. Conduct benchmark and fidelity checks to ensure tutors are delivering the Literacy First program interventions effectively and with fidelity.

  • Support, coach and provide consultation to partner LEAs/Organizations and assigned partner Lead Coaches to ensure program fidelity (i.e., reading specialist or instructional coach). Build effective relationships with partner school, program and/or district staff (e.g., district staff, principals, Lead Coaches, and campus staff).

  • Maintain accurate documentation of students served by program (progress monitoring, benchmark assessments and other relevant information). Monitor all aspects of student data collection at beginning, middle, and end of year to ensure fidelity. Conduct two data meetings per campus each year. Communicate program outcomes and pertinent program information in a timely and responsible manner

  • Support Literacy First tutors' professional development throughout the year.

  • Participate in processes and activities designed to establish an organizational culture that supports learning, collaboration, and collective responsibility to enhance professional relationships, job satisfaction, and organizational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications
  • Teacher Certification

  • 3 years of experience in K-2 literacy coaching

  • Bachelor's degree plus five years of experience teaching reading at the elementary level (this could include classroom teaching and/or intervention)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the science of teaching reading, early reading interventions and progress monitoring assessment

  • Demonstrated proficiency in using data to drive instruction.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with early reading interventions, progress monitoring, and reading assessments * Dynamic interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience developing and providing professional development for staff adult learners

  • Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of media, work cooperatively with others as a team, organize and maintain records, manage time and resources effectively and efficiently, and evaluate performance and providing/seeking out constructive feedback.

(Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

  • Demonstrated experience administering district-level literacy programming

  • Master's Degree in language and literacy studies or related field.

  • Experience managing or supervising staff or volunteers, especially in an early literacy program

Salary Range
  • $70,000-$75,672

Working Conditions
  • Travel to multiple school campuses during the week using personal vehicle with reimbursement for mileage.
