Summary The Tool and Die Maker position conducts Die setup, troubleshooting, repairs and preventive maintenance service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Use sketches, blueprints, specifications and models to plan operations for the fabrication of dies, tools and assemblies, ensuring safety and maximum efficiency
  2. Verify dimensions of finished parts to ensure they conform to specifications using dial indicators, gauge blocks, calipers and micrometers
  3. Utilize hand and machine tools to assemble parts of tools and dies and to repair and modify gauges, jigs and dies
  4. Design templates and jigs to be used as work aids for convenient fabrication of products and parts
  5. Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on tools, manually operated dies and progressive dies
  6. Interface with external and internal customers, handle supplier and customer concerns, and work with team members to solve problems during the production process
  7. File and finish workpieces using the appropriate hand tools to ensure products are smooth and that they fit together properly
  8. Select the appropriate metals and materials to be used based on properties, ensuring they meet project specifications
  9. Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  10. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  11. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  12. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  13. Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  14. Must be able to work flexible hours including over time as needed.
  15. Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications-To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience -High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Will consider candidates with experience with operating manual Lathe and/or Mill machines.

Language Skills-Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Reasoning Ability-Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete

variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Skills - must be able to read Calipers and Micrometers

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
