THIS POSITION IS SHORT TERM, MAX 1000 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR

North Wind Services (NWS) is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer's mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.

The Operations and Business Directorate has an opening within the Human Resources Division for a Deaf Interpreter to serve as an interpreter to translate and communicate using ASL. The successful candidate will have the ability to receive, process and deliver information while maintaining composure and effectively managing the flow of information. This position may require the successful candidate have the flexibility to work overtime, shift and or weekends to accomplish goals. The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments.

Essential Duties:

- Serves as an intermediary interpreter to interpret, translate, and explain using ASL, signed languages, including other forms of visual communication.

- Ensures the message is clearly communicated and matches the affect, integrity, and intent of the message.

- Interprets with discretion and ensures ethical code of behavior; and protects the confidentiality of information.

- Researches and understands terminology used in a scientific study to accurately interpret information.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or a combination of formal interpretation training and or relevant experience.

- Possession and maintenance of a valid certification issued by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or National Association of the Deaf (NAD).

- Knowledge of best practices in interpreting; communication styles and methods.

- Must possess a robust English and ASL vocabulary to accurately convey information.

- Ability to receive, process and deliver information while maintaining composure and effectively managing the flow of information.

- Ability to identify the preferred communication modalities/preferences of individuals in the conversation.

- Experience operating a computer using standard business software, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); operate standard office equipment.

Special Requirements:

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-employment drug test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position may be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.
