Training Program Description:

This course is designed for anyone who enjoys working with data and seeks an opportunity to help community health centers serve patients with greater ease and efficiency. Students of any background can sign up-those new to health care, current industry professionals looking to specialize, or existing data specialists committed to advancing health equity on training.

Note: This program includes both online classroom training and on-site hands-on training.

Training Program Details:

  • This is a training program is M-F, 8A-5P; and has a living stipend.
  • 40 hours per week - 1,700 total hours
  • The total program stipend: $31,450 (remote learning & on-site in-person internship)
  • This stipend is divided for the duration of the program, and payment is made on OCHIN's semi-monthly pay schedule.
  • Eligible for monthly $600 benefits reimbursements (Participant cost only) - some restrictions apply


Training Program Objectives:

Learn to apply specialized health care and database management insights to analyze important clinical data, identify trends, and create targeted reports. * Become skilled in generating queries, processing receipts, performing validation checks, substantiating clinical databases, and more. * Learn to develop project-specific data management plans that address key areas such as coding, reporting, data transfer, database locks, and workflow processes.

  • Hybrid course format combines self-learning exercises with instructor-led, on-demand virtual modules

Skills introduced: OCHIN EPIC, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Structured Query Language, Excel, and Tableau.


A Clinical Data and Quality Analyst will help relieve burdens on frontline clinicians and staff in clinical quality efforts to support chronic condition management. Students will begin applying their knowledge of database management to analyze clinical data, identify and report trends. They can learn the elements of generating data queries, based on validation checks or errors and omissions identified during data entry, to resolve identified problems. At some sites, students can learn "medical abstraction"--manual review of records to prepare for a data migration from one system to another.


The CDQA duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifies client issues
  • Maintain user profiles in the clinical applications as needed
  • Assist in the preparation of written reports regarding progress of clinical IT project implementations including but not limited to progress, barriers
  • Work cross functionally and coordinate with others internally or externally to gather information
  • Mine data and/or information to identify inconsistencies, trends, other information needed, (e.g., develop and/or run data queries)
  • Mine claims and case management software for data to assist in the development of preventive care programming determine outcomes of implemented programs
  • Works with some guidance
  • Support the analysis of quality auditing findings as it relates to business process information (e.g., metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Training Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Participants must live within 30min-45min from the Service site location of Oregon City, OR
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident/Green Card holder (not open to non-citizens or Visa holders)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is beneficial for this role
  • Must be able to pass a national criminal background check successfully.
