The EPS Linear Product team specializes in the design of Polyurethane, PTFE, and Elastomeric sealing solutions for linear dynamic applications across multiple market segments including Industrial Fluid Power, Mobile Equipment (construction and agriculture), Automotive, Aerospace and Defense. This position is for a functional manager, who will be responsible to lead, manage, and provide technical direction to the linear sealing product development engineering team. In addition to team leadership responsibilities, this position is will directly support a portion of the programs assigned to the linear sealing product team. For these projects the candidate will lead the technical effort, define engineering plans, manage product design standards, define goals, and ensures program objectives and contractual requirements or customer expectations are met, including required scope, cost and schedule constraints.

This role will interface heavily with the broader cross functional team in support of progressing team and program objectives. They will have responsibility for working with business counterparts to define and execute on future research and development needs to support product development and strategic growth goals.

Has regular and frequent internal and external interaction with program management, customers, and division leadership on technical projects. May have cross-business unit or division interface on common technical issues or customers.

Essential Functions

Leads the technical effort and defines engineering plans and expected outcomes for a major engineering team. Develop plans for multiple projects and determine team and resource allocation by developing and reviewing technical proposals, internal and subcontract capabilities, and conferring with management. Manage the deployment of resources among teams and for engineers assigned to various programs (e.g. matrix to a business team). May act as a Control Account Manager (CAM) for projects applying Earned Value Management (EVM)..

Provide leadership and direction on product development and the introduction of new technology; may lead or support collaboration on research activities. Lead the team and expert staff in interpreting technical requirements, managing associated risk, design testing programs, complete technical studies, conduct design reviews, and define product workmanship criteria.

Serves as a technical liaison with program management and customer technical representatives to lead technical discussion with customer's engineering teams, present status and/or refine project plans; assess and make technical determinations on changes in customer requirements (e.g. design specifications; change impact on cost/schedule).

Ensures teams are implementing and achieving process improvement and design standardization objectives (e.g. structured design process). Maintains consistent engineering practices, standards, and documentation procedures and reporting capabilities. Provide quarterly review and annual performance assessments. Takes appropriate steps to protect and safeguard Parker intellectual property.

Accountable for full budget planning and non-recurring and recurring cost and schedule management that may include engineering systems and staffing for multiple facilities. Provides input to leadership on long- range plans to meet both current and anticipated growth and resource challenges (e.g. workforce planning; new technical systems investments).

Partners with and promotes technical collaboration opportunities for product innovation or systems solutions. Serves as a primary liaison on technical capabilities. Provides input to the technology roadmap and division business plans.

Make recommendations and decisions on human resources actions (e.g. staffing, training, compensation, etc.); discusses exceptional cases with the next level manager. Communicate and implement actions to ensure Parker values and company policies are well understood and maintained (e.g. business ethics; integrity; inclusion).

Identify and create technical training and development plans. Mentor or serve as a resource to share specialized knowledge with others. Maintain leadership and technical capabilities through continued education or training.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (BS) (or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate) in engineering or a science technical discipline; Master's degree (MS or MBA) preferred.

Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 10-12 years of related experience. Has prior management/supervisory responsibility for 4 or more years including project engineering experience.

Broad knowledge and understanding of primary engineering domains and specialized products/systems as they are applied to varied engineering projects. Ability to apply and integrate knowledge of other related engineering areas. Proficient with project management, engineering documentation design control (Inventor, Vault, Enovia) engineering analysis tools (FEA, Design for Six Sigma, Minitab, Sigmasoft,) and product development (Lean Product Development, New Product Blueprinting)

Demonstrated ability to investigate and lead research projects. Skilled at assessing and making cost and investment trade-off decisions.

Ability to apply program management principles to the product development cycle, and apply cost accounting principles and methods (e.g. earned value management). Experience with comprehensive program and design reviews and/or other customer requirements, industry practices, regulations, and policies.

Ability to effectively influence the overall team and functional objectives. Ability to delegate and empower leaders and teams. Ability to guide and develop the team through effective coaching, feedback, recognition, and skill assessment and training

Thorough knowledge of competitor and industry practices, government regulations, and internal policies.

Recognized as an influential technical resource. Has strong facilitation skills and ability to communicate effectively to varied audiences to gain support or resolve issues. Makes effective presentations on highly technical topics to top management, customers, and/or other key stakeholders.

Effective speaker and presenter; serves as a spokesperson or in a liaison role with universities and other research institutions and industry associations. Ability to respond to significant inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or other internal teams.
