Description

The ideal candidate will be located in Washington, D.C.
As the Director of Federal Government Affairs at bioMerieux, you will be a pivotal member of our Government and Public Affairs team, responsible for monitoring the U.S. policy environment relevant to our priority areas of focus. Your role will involve analysis of relevant policies and proposed legislation, creating recommendations and public comments on behalf of bioMerieux, as well as mapping and engaging in private and public non-government stakeholders who are advocating on the same topics of interest. This role will engage both internal and external topic experts as needed for topic expertise. Throughout your responsibilities, you will maintain an unwavering commitment to compliance and integrity.
Primary Duties
  • With the VP Government Affairs, develop and maintain a list of key policy topics that aligns with the overall business strategy and the Government Affairs government stakeholder strategy
  • Monitor and track policy initiatives to include: proposed legislation or regulation at the federal level, key stakeholder policy documents and budget appropriations for key government agencies including DoD and VA.
  • Analyze policy initiatives to assess both their impact on bioMerieux, our customers, the patients we serve, and our industry.
  • Create, maintain, and communicate policy briefing documents, company position papers and public comments as the policy initiatives evolve.
  • Advocate for policies that advance public health through diagnostics, in alignment with the company's mission and objectives.
  • Research and stay up to date with the latest industry trends.
  • Identify, map and prioritize key private and public non-governmental stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with private and public non-government stakeholders. These stakeholders will include, but are not limited to, trade groups, industry groups and patient groups as appropriate.
  • Represent the Company's interests in industry conferences, panels and policy discussions related to relevant policy issues.
  • Provide valuable feedback and insights to the Government Affairs team regarding policy positions and analysis to inform Government stakeholder strategy and discussions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external topic experts as needed to inform policy positions.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted with a high level of integrity and compliance and are fully compliant with relevant laws, regulations and company standards of business conduct and ethics.
Training and Education
BS/BA degree required; Advanced degree preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs or other relevant senior leadership roles managing relationships with legislative bodies and or federal agencies.
  • Experience with policy and guideline analysis required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the U.S. healthcare and Appropriations process.
  • Proven track record in building relationships with external stakeholders and advocating for policy changes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Exceptional communication skills: equally effective in front of field teams as in front of the senior leadership team and governmental officials.
  • The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system, federal Appropriations process, and government affairs.
  • Excellent critical thinking and writing skills. Must have the ability to analyze complex concepts and documents, develop accurate and useful recommendations, and effectively communicate them to non-expert audiences.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed environment with multiple decision-makers and stakeholders.
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment.
  • Possesses the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
Domestic travel required 25% of time
