**Remote opportunity in the following locations: VA, MD, WV, NC, SC, GA, FL, TN, AR, KY, TX**

The Surgery Clinical Reviewer coordinates, collects, and submits reliable and accurate clinical data to the American College of Surgeon's National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), through high-quality, complex clinical data interpretation, abstraction, and data validation. This position obtains data via standard and custom reports, analyzes, interpret data's, and identifies opportunities. The Surgery Clinical Reviewer may also assist with collection of data to support other clinical data registries outside of NSQUIP.

The Surgery Clinical Reviewer recommends and implements improvement activities in collaboration with department leadership and surgeon champions.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Current license in the Commonwealth of Virginia in nursing, RHIA, RHIT, or related certification in clinical area NSQIP Surgical Clinical Reviewer certified - preferred Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality preferred Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current license in the Commonwealth of Virginia in nursing, RHIA, RHIT, or related certification in clinical area Successfully complete the ACS NSQIP SCR Training/Certification Program within 3 months from date in job. Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical work experience in the healthcare environment. Minimum one (1) year experience working in a surgical department in hospital, clinic, clinical research or similar. Clinical chart review and data abstraction experience Previous experience using computers and software applications to include electronic medical records, the Internet, e-mail, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel - required; Access and PowerPoint preferred), statistics, and graphics. Experience PREFERRED: Experience as Surgical Clinical Reviewer for NSQIP, strongly preferred. Pediatric clinical Experience PREFERRED: Experience in quality/performance improvement and/or patient safety. Database and/or registry management experience Experience independently managing and facilitating improvement projects and interdisciplinary teams, to include, staff, executives, and physicians in a healthcare environment. Experience with performance improvement and process improvement tools and methods, including proven track record of data-driven clinical improvement successes. Project management experience. Process improvement experience Education/training REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field Education/training PREFERRED: Master's degree in healthcare related field Course work in statistics, in quality improvement, such as quality methodologies/tools Fellowship in Healthcare Quality or Patient Safety Independent action(s) required: Facilitates groups and teams effectively and promotes the VCU Health System performance improvement processes, utilizing proven PI tools and methods. Implements data analysis methodology accurately. Self-directs work by utilizing effective processes for data collection, analysis, distribution, and data use. Produces effective written documents, reports, and presentations. Problem solves using critical thinking and decision-making skills. Identifies milestones and tracks project progress. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Early morning, late evening, and weekend work will be required to fulfill responsibilities of the role, including routinely making off hour phone calls to patients and conducting meetings with internal stakeholders.
