This position functions to provide leadership in the area of new educator induction, professional learning, and coaching with a specific focus on a coaching and mentoring model aligned to the Standards of Professional Learning (Learning Forward). Core responsibilities include coordination of activities for new teacher induction, professional learning along with project management of the district's coaching strategy to support and develop school-based coaches. This position reports directly to the Director, Professional Learning. The position designs, implements, and evaluates comprehensive support systems to ease the transition of new educators as they begin their careers in education in alignment with the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR). The position also supports implementation of multi-modal, district wide coaching activities for all new teachers with specific focus on building strong classroom culture and engaging academics in service of increasing teacher retention, promoting teacher effectiveness, and positively impacting student achievement.

Essential Functions
  • Designs, coordinates, supervises, and facilitates multi-modal, districtwide professional learning and mentoring activities for all new teachers with specific focus on building strong classroom culture and engaging academics with a goal to increase educator retention, promote educator effectiveness, and positively impact student achievement.
  • Provides timely and sustained new teacher support which includes differentiated induction for educators new to the profession and/or to the district with further customization for elementary and secondary content areas.
  • Conducts extensive data analysis and planning related to the development, implementation, evaluation, and modification of districtwide new educator induction professional learning and mentoring.
  • Coordinates the development and delivery of ongoing professional learning to School Success Liaisons, district leaders, and school leaders to support the deepening of content knowledge and pedagogy.
  • Coordinates and supervises highly specialized work of design teams to develop effective new teacher professional learning, coaching support, and customized resources for beginning and experienced new teachers.
  • Develops and provides appropriate guidance for schools and school leaders in support of career educators.
  • Supports the central procurement of high-quality instructional materials in support of coaching goals.
  • Collaborates with multiple offices across the organization to ensure cohesive implementation of the strategy for coaching support in alignment with district goals.
  • Establishes and coordinates an effective system for communicating the new teacher induction program to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establishes a system to collect, analyze, and monitor data that will evaluate the effectiveness of new educator supports.
  • Supervises, supports, and evaluates the performance of assigned staff.
  • Works in partnership with a highly motivated team from multiple offices to advance teaching and
    learning in the district.
  • Supports the Director of Professional Learning, with long- and short-term planning and project management associated with the implementation of the district's coaching strategies.
  • Keeps the Director of Professional Learning abreast of all matters related to induction and coaching.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Maryland State Teaching Certificate, APC, in Elementary Education, Special Education, Secondary Education, Early Childhood Education or a related field; applicants applying from outside of Maryland should possess equivalent teaching and professional certifications.
  • Administrator I endorsement
  • 5 or more years of combined experience in teaching, coaching, and/or school leadership in PK- 12 setting.
  • Experience in coaching adult learners and with use of coaching tools and resources
  • Prior experience with implementation of goals, requirements, and guidelines of Maryland's educator induction program
  • Knowledge of best practices of job-embedded professional development and Standards for Professional Learning
  • Knowledge of state and national issues and trends related to new educator induction and effective coaching.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and project management skills, including the ability to assess and diagnose critical areas for attention, develop strategies, and translate them into concrete actions.
  • Ability to foster an environment that focuses on quality results while motivating, developing, and supporting a diverse staff, encouraging continuous improvement, and working effectively as a member of a diverse team.
  • Possess understanding of the change process and its relationship to current trends in large urban school districts; ability to plan and implement change to improve student learning.
  • Ability in planning, scheduling, and allocating resources, reaching logical conclusions, and making high-quality decisions using appropriate decision-making processes and accepting responsibility for actions and consequences.
  • Maintains articulation and alignment of new teacher professional learning with departments/divisions, as well as local, state, and national professional organizations.
  • Builds and fosters relationships with District partners and associations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with the ability to make clear, persuasive presentations to diverse groups.
  • Excellent public relations skills and experience working cooperatively with members and constituents of the school community.
